calibrating thermometer an hydrometer

I had a horrible hatch rate (2 out of 22) and because the two that hatched were three days late, I am thinking my temp was too low. How do I calibrate a thermometer and a hydrometer. Do you suggest having several of each and just taking an average? I want to try again but I don't want to have so many quitters this time. Is there a brand of either thermometer or hydrometer that you have had good success with and would recommend?

I use A genisis temp and hygrometer. I paid 20$ for it and so far they work just fine. I use it in combo with a mercury bulb. I think you are spot on the temp being too low. Don't give up, you will get it.
