I am trying to raise California valley quail again this year. For some reason I get 2 or 3 to hatch and they live for about 4 days and then they start laying on their back and die. I have the brooder temp at 99.5, food and water. Can anyone give me some suggestions.

What kind of feed? Do you have marbles in the water so they can't get wet? Are there areas where the brooder isn't as warm?
I have no experience with brooders, but I've been hanging around this forum for a while and I think those are some of the relevant questions..

This is my second year of trying to raise them. Last year I did ok. raised 4 to adults. Once they hatch they remain in hatcher for 24 hrs then I move them to the brooder. I use turkey multch feed, marbles in water, cooler areas in brooder so they can escape from heat.
