I want to pick up a couple of call duck eggs to hatch, but I am running into a few problems.
1) Some people say they are one of the hardest to raise. Is this true?
2) I can't find anyone who has some call duck eggs..

I'd keep an eye out in this forum here:

Put an add up on Craigslist for something local maybe?

I've never even seen a call duck so take anything I write with that in mind

I think I've read that call ducks are winding down their hatching season because of the heat? I don't really know, just trying to pull from memory what's passed my eyes in these forums

I don't remember hearing that call ducks are harder to raise per se, but that the eggs are harder to hatch. If you use the google search tool and put in "call ducks" you should get lots of hits.

Hopefully someone who knows more than me will chime up.

their feet and bills are small (show stock, not average stock)
so they have a hard time getting out of the shells.

start with average stock. you'll be ahead of the game that way.
follow directions for incubating duck eggs. you'll do well.

Call ducks aren't any harder to raise - just harder to hatch if they're show quality babies - even the pet quality ones sometimes have a hard time hatching.

I have pet quality - and I love them dearly

they are SO funny and have such personalities. I don't plan to show or anything, so the pet quality is fine with me.

My girl stopped laying already - this is her first year, and it got HOT down here suddenly this year, it seems. Early June was cool and damp - then mid/late June hit and it turned monstrously humid and hot. She may lay more consistantly next year, I expect. All of my other girls were too young to lay this year (I have ten total call ducks.) Next year I expect to be overun with eggs

I have 4 call ducks. A pair of Snowy Calls and a pair of Butterscotch Calls. Boths females sat on a nest but none hatched.Hope I have better luck next time.

They are very hard to hatch I only had one get out on its on in 4 hatches had to help all the others.
But when my females went broody they both had 6 eggs under them and hatched 5 so they can do it on their own under their mommy but hard in the incubator.
