Okay, I just brought my Snowy Call drake in the house. I noticed him in the pool this morning, and again this afternoon, and by tonight when he was still in the pool, I went out to get him. His oil duct is obviously not working because he's very waterlogged. He couldn't even get himself out of the pool, poor baby. He's in a towel, wrapped up, sitting on my chest. I can't put him back outside until he's able to care for himself. How do I help my boy??

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Laurie

Awwww..poor guy! I would keep him in for now, nice and warm till you can figure out what to do! Good luck!

Poor little guy.

Try giving him some BOSS in his diet(good oil in the sunflower seeds).
I would ONLY let him bathe under supervision-so he doesn't drown. Bathe him in the tub while you can sit with him.
Go down the page a bit and it talks about blocked oil glands.

Thanks! They get BOSS plus other sunflower type seeds because of my parrots. Maybe I'll start adding a little EVOO to their food to help.

He's being so calm, wrapped up in a towel, sitting on my chest. He has ahold of my shirt in his beak.

Thanks again!

in the winter you have to watch them when they get bathing water. The feathers are not as conditioned as they are in the warmer months and they do waterlog sometimes. I would put him in a pen with a shallow water pan until he gets some oil moving in his feathers. Also when they get wet like that they can not take the cold until they are dry so it was best for him to come in for the night. They also like to tip on their backs when they are soaking wet.
