I got a call from my DF today saying that my little baby white duck(adult call drake) had been stuck in the fence on there cage. He said his wing was stuck pretty good and he got him out and put him in his pool. He said that he wouldn't tuck his wing in all the way. Well I get home to see that yea his wing sticks out a bit and hangs a little low. On quick inspection it feels a bit swollen. I tried to see if there were moving pieces like maybe broken or dislocated but there is not weird movement at all. I just feels like it is stuck? Does that make sense? Can anyone offer suggestions here? I'm just having a day here!

Oh, boy, not good news. Sorry to hear about the injury.

I am thinking - what would I do if I got my shoulder really pulled badly? Well, I would rest it. I would keep it comfortably warm, not too warm. I would expect some swelling. I would take my extra vitamins, make sure I drank plenty of fresh, clean water, and ate good food.

Checking Storey's Guide, their recommendation for injuries (they talk about lameness, but a sprain is a sprain) is to keep the duck in a clean, quiet place with easy access to clean drinking water and food, and give him or her extra vitamins.

Do you have a sick bay area?

I would also consider banding the wing to the bird to keep the injured wing still and in proper position. There is a stretchy bandage sold at feed stores for horses (comes in all kinds of cool colors!). You can put the wing in proper position and wrap him so he cant move it. Keeping him in a quiet place where he can't be really active for a few days is prob a good idea too. Good luck and hope he feels better. I have used this tape multiple times for my ducks. Had a duck with angel wing once and we also had ducks with wing injuries from our dog. Won't even go into the horror of that story!
