Here are some pics of my Araucana baby Lola and she is 2 1/2 weeks old. My questions are....Why doesn't she have tail feathers yet? Why is she feathering slowere than my other breeds? I have no other Araucanas to compare her to, but are they a bigger breed? She is a lot heavier and has tree trunk legs compared to the Polish, RIR and Delaware Blue... Any Idea on a color??

What are your thoughts??

Araucanas are rumpless (or sposed to be anyhow) and Ameraucanas have tails. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I am wrong..... but some breeds the males feather out slower than the females. Maybe this is why.

I have two Araucanas and my one female lost her tail feathers at one point but they eventually grew back. It took them a really long time but now Dark Cloud and Sunshine have both gorgious feathers and are almost 7 years old and they lay everyday.

That is an easter egger. Since it is feathering in slower than the others, it is probably a male, sometimes slow feathering can be sexlinked, the females will feather in and the males will still have mostly down.

Araucana Rumpless (NO TAIL) tufted by standard, but does produce clean faced.

Ameraucana Has a tail, No tufts, but does have muffs and beard.

Over half the birds I have seen that people called araucana where anything but what is pictured below.

For true and accurated information try the "Araucanas Club of America. The web pages has pictures and lots of information..

Its an Easter Egger, the coloration and a real dead give away of leg color tells me its not an Araucana.

Its a cute chick tho! I am certain it will be a wheaton or some mixed of barred/penciling brown wheaton EE!

Enjoy her!

Awww, thanks!! I am hoping girl. If she is a roo, she will live here happy with everyone else!
I can't wait to see how she feathers out, right now she only has those little bit of wing feathers and is just now getting some at the top of he wings, but that is it. Keep your fingers crossed for girl!!!
