A friend of mine has had rats for years . Right now she has two but would really like a blue rex dumbo (apparently they are addicting just like chickens...). She has looked online for breeders since what she wants is so specialized but none seem to have any litters planned much less with that combination. Since someone on here almost always has connections can anyone point me in the right direction for her? Thanks!!!

Well unless they ship I would say within a few hours of Cincinnati Ohio or Southern Michigan not sure where but that's where her family is from and she visits consistently.

Shipping mammals is insanely expensive. I know she has her heart set on such a rat color/ear/fur combination, but I am sure she could find a rat that is just as pleasing without all the trouble.

Rats are definitely addicting. I would think a blue dumbo rex would be easy to find, even if it was marked such as a husky or berk, especially in Ohio. I'll take a look around. Best of luck to her. I've been wanting a harley for years.....but always end up with some feeder rat with bright eyes or sad ones.

Thats what both of hers were destined to be fancy feeders. From pet stores that keep rats that are flashy enough that someone might want it as a pet but to them a rat is a rat and still snake food no matter the color. Personally rats creep me out (so do mice a opossum anything with a hairless tail....) but since she isn't a chicken addict and doesn't have the BYC connection I figured if she really wants it I would at least ask around.

If she's willing to pay for shipping, many rat breeders ship. But, here are some closer options:

Ready to Go:

Ohio breeders who either specifically mention, or appear able to breed blue rex dumbos. Needs to sign up for a waiting list:

Haha
, I used to be creeped out by rats. Especially any rat that had red or ruby eyes. A lot of people are. The naked tails and the eyes really get people. My first chance rat changed that forever. Can't be anyplace without them now. Moved my girl (rat #5) with us across country. She would hop up in laps, could jump on and off the couch, followed us around the house (especially my husband..my girls always get huge ratty crushes on him), and would come when you called her.
Never had a rat like her, but then, that's why people get so addicted to them. They each have such a different personality. Some play fetch, others love to cuddle, others will only allow one or two peopl of their choosing to be near them. <3

Hope your friend finds what she is looking for...which may end up being another feeder knowing rat types.

I actually have a litter that was just born yesterday, and a few that are about ready to go. The ones ready to go do not appear to be dumbos, but it looks like there may be some dumbos in the newborn litter. The father is a blue dumbo rex (He is my avatar) the mom is a beige top eared smooth coat. I can post pics of the current babies too. Right now I do not know what colors my new litter is or will be....
