I was wondering since blue is use to get buff can you take a blue rooster to a buff hen and get pure buff offspring?

Hello,

I've never produced buff from blue or blue from buff. To keep your colors correct, you should only breed blue to blue(will produce blue, black and splash) splash to blue(will produce blue and splash) and splash to black(all blue) you can also go blue to black(will produce blue and black)

Some folks just like to have fun with colors in that case the blue to buff would be a interesting cross. I would guess the blue would have some gold in the hackles and maybe in the wing bows, not sure about how the buffs would look. I'm sure someone will come along with a better understanding of genetic crosses:)

Take care,
Shari

I want to keep mine pure I just saw someones website that kept Blue roo with buff girls and was producing show stock

You will get some buffs with blue replacing black, some buffs without that effect, some blues, and some mixed colours. Exactly what you get will be a roll of the dice. I've seen some very nice blues and buffs come out of that mating, and I've seen some very unusual looking birds.

In the first generation of this cross (blue x buff) you will get all blue offspring with various amounts of off color. The blue shades will vary from a sort of "grayish" to dark blue.
