Our one year old calls took off flying through the woods, a lot farther than they have flown before. Thankfully they came back.

I am planning to clip their wings so they can't fly quite so far.

I don't want to clip too much that they can't fly at all, I just don't want them to fly hundreds of feet at a time. When we had our cockatiels, we would clip just the first 3-4 flight feathers, leaving the rest intact. That worked well for allowing them to have limited flight. Would that the same for call ducks?

I would try cutting all of them shown in green, my Muscovy are still able to fly 20+ feet up into a tree while all of the green ones are cut, but the yellow ones at the end are still there. I had heard you could leave the last 2 and they wouldn't be able to fly, but my girl penguin was still easily able to fly with just the last 2.
