Hello.
Thank you for all the work it takes to run a forum. I appreciate you being willing to help others by creating this community.
I bought my first feathered friend at a swap meet when I was 10 and took it home to my mothers horror and my fathers entertainment. Her name was “Chicken” and she was the boss of even our pit bull. I was hooked. A few years later I drug home 4 ducks that did not sell for Easter from the pet store. There have been a few more big adventures over the last 50 years. I think my favorite were the 2 turkeys that we let get 40 lbs before we invited them to dinner and could not find a pan big enough. lol.
Each time I have learned something the hard way. Today I ordered 30 chickens (10 Welsummer, 10 New Hampshire Red, 10 Ameraucana) and 4 bronze turkeys. By winter all will be in the freezer or canned, but a few layers. And we may try to raise our own meat birds from some of these in the future, Not sure yet. This is the first time we have gone big, so I started reading and found you online.
Our birds will be free spirits during the day, we have plenty of space. But we also have lots of snow in the winter, that is why some of our flock will be happier in the oven.
Thank you for answering my questions as they come along.
