After a nasty case of food poisoning my boyfriend just got diagnosed with Campylobacter jejuni. We started drinking raw milk last month, but it is from an excellent local farm with fairly large distribution. The doc said this was likely the source. Couldnt it also be from our chickens? Ive been storing our eggs unwashed on the counter. I think I will start rinsing and refrigerating them to be safe. I've looked through the CDC website but not found any great info. Anyone have a link that I can use to help convince my BF that our eggs are safe. Chickens are really my thing and Im afraid he is going to be freaked out after this! thanks

If the Dr. had known you had chickens, I'm sure the cause would have been chickens. Don't you eat eggs as well? Do you eat them raw? If I had to guess, I would say its not from the milk or the chickens and unless testing is done, its only a guess and eggs and or raw milk make a popular target. It would probably be more helpful to think about what he ate that you didn't in the 12 or so hours before he got sick.

I completely agree. The raw milk and chickens are an easy target. I have been eating both the whole time and have no symptoms. He did eat chicken fingers at a bar the night before he got sick, Im sure it could have just as easily been from that. Its the only thing he ate that I didnt.

although, now that I think about it he shared those with a number of other people who didn't get sick. . . . i dont know!?!?!?

The doc called the health department although its not a mandated reportable disease. So I imagine we will be getting a call soon. I just hope they dont hassle the dairy farm I get milk from! The farm had a random swab come back with ecoli a few months ago and havent been able to sell cream since. People just dont understand that bacteria are everywhere and every single one isnt going to hurt us!
