Today I received 9 day-old chickens from Ideal Poultry. I can only have 4 to add to my flock of 2 but the website had a $25 minimum order fee which ended up being 9 chicks. Anyway, I like the idea of having a diverse flock of hens so I ordered 3 Australorps, 2 brahmas, 2 white rocks and 2 buff orpingtons with the idea that I’ll keep one of each breed and sell or give away the other 5. Well I already have someone interested but I can’t tell the difference between the white rocks and the orpingtons and I really really want to make sure I keep one of each! Do any of you chicken experts know of a way I can tell the two breeds apart in the first week??
