I just sent in a money order for 30 Button quail yesterday, and today i received 6 unexcpected mallard duck eggs. I will get the Button eggs in a week so the buttons will be about a week old when the ducks hatch. Can they be kept together for a few weeks? I just made a very nice Chick brooder for the buttons, and it would be easeir to be able to put the two together rather than make another one for my duck.

NO!!!! The ducklings will stomp on the quail. Ducklings grow very, very fast and make everything messy wet. They empty waterers faster that seems possible and projectice poop over everything.

Oh definitely not. I'd get a whole new brooder because a damp/wet environment is not good for them. I brood buttons in an aquarium (with no water LOL). Ducks are horribly big and messy and they'd squash the buttons easily.

In my opinion they will be fine together for a short time if their hatch
dates are close.

Yes, the ducks could mush the quail but the quail are FAST and the ducks
are dopey.

The ducks will need their own brooder within 2 weeks. Ducks are messy
and need a small pool (dish will do fine at first). Quail like to drown in
water.

Forgot about the drowning thing - PC is right. I've had buttons drown in the quail waterer if I didn't put pebbles in it. With the amount of water ducklings go through, you'd end up with drowned buttons for sure.

I can see the little BumbleBee quail doing dives into the water.

My Buttons never had much of a chance. They could drown in a tear
drop, squeeze through anything, and end up in my dogs drooling mouth.

They really aren't the brightest little things. I had one perish because it got stuck between the waterer and the side of the aquarium. There was plenty of room for it to get out if only it had gone the other way. It was a sad, sad day

But now the waterer is in the middle DOH.
