Can a 4 month old pullet go broody?

My friend has a 4 month old Buff Orp that has been sitting in a nesting box for over 20 hours now. She has gotten up to eat or drink, then back to the box.
No eggs in the box, as far as my friend can tell, this hen has not laid her first egg yet.

We first thought 'egg bound'. She can feel an egg, over to the side, not at the vent. Hen seems okay other than just hanging out in the nesting box. Is this normal?? Any suggestions?

She thinks she feels an egg, but not sure.

The hen isn't too cooperative for body exams. Neither one of us ever had a new girl just decide to sit in a nest for that long. With the high heat here, we were getting a little concerned about the hen.
