Hi there. I'm new here and new to chickens. I got five hens about 2 weeks ago and I was told they were all Barred Rocks. One is plain white so definitely not a Barred Rock and she seems to small to be a Plymouth Rock. Now I'm worried I might have some boys too. I also got two more, younger girls because you know, 5 wasn't quite enough. I'm not sure 7 is enough either! Thank you so much for any help.

Here is a picture of the white hen. Her name was Oprah when we got her and we kept it. I don't know how old she is, I was told "just about laying age".

This is Zebra. She has little tufts of feathers or down at her cheeks. It was hard to get pics but can Barred Rocks have tufts like that? Also, I don't think she has a single comb and I thought BR's had a single comb. What else could she be? Again, I don't know her age, she also is supposed to be close to laying.

This is Rainbow. Same story about age. She seems bigger and has more comb and wattle and again, her comb doesn't look like a single comb but I am a complete novice.

This is Cluckita. She's much darker than the rest of the girls and seems to have a single comb. Is she a BR?

This is Comet, we were told she's a Golden Comet. She's super sweet.

This is Pox. We were told Aracauna but clearly not. Is she an EE?

Pictures will not come up for me, but to answer your question - No barred rocks do not have muffs or tufts, and yes they do have single combs.

White one could be a white rock...not sure about the size thing.
Tufted ones, EEs
The barred, no tufts could be a barred rock.
The Comet, looks like a comet
and the last looks like a partridge rock.

The last one is NOT a Partridge Rock...I think most of these are EE mixes of some kind. Did you get them all from the same place? Oprah looks like a leghorn mix and she is not close to laying. She is too young. The only 2 who look old enough to lay are Zebra and Rainbow - they and Cluckita look like EE mixes, but Cluckita is much younger than the other 2. Comet is a Red Sex Link - she is also quite young. And the last one looks like a poor quality EE.

No, it's a barred Easter egger. I just hatched 2. I'm hoping for a female! The hens were Easter eggers and father barred rock.

I got the four barreds and Oprah from the same place and then the sex link and little EE from a different place. Thanks so much!
