Here are some pics from today.
She started with 12 eggs, she broke 2.
Left with 10,
started to hatch Saturday, April 23, some hatched Easter Sunday. 2 have gone to a new home already, 2 are leaving on Saturday.
The pictures are of the two leaving Saturday, they are going to go be someones pampered pets, sounds like they are going to duckie paradise these 2.
before the pictures I must tell the story of today. being they were done hatching, and I noticed a green egg, or yes, it was green
I decided this afternoon was the day to remove all the unhatched eggs, which was 6 eggs, I knew one duckling had died, look like it had got shrinkwrapped.
So, removal begins,
first out, the almost hatched deceased baby, it was sad, it was perfectly normal looking , all curled up in its egg, so I buried that one. awe.
second out, the green, full of green soup egg.
, how this one didn't explode is beyond me. !!!!
3rd out, was a normal looking egg, I took it outside, was going to break it open, as it wasn't full of rotten soup. it peeped at me !!! gosh darn it, it peeped, thank goodness it did !! So, because Floppy was done being a setter, and had basically kicked out all the eggs, I quickly rushed this to the house, it's in a tupperware dish with a warm wet cloth underneath it, the egg is on a paper towel on a yogurt lid so that it's not sitting directly on the wet cloth. the egg is covered with a damp papertowel and a lid is loosely on top. to keep humidity in. I am completely going on hope and a prayer for this one. It's still pecking away inside the egg, I can see through the egg and can see a dark patch where it's broke the membrane, but, has yet to break the shell.
after that is settled, back to the barn,
4th egg out , another rotten soup egg.
I also found one more dead baby, but, grossly only its head, mama must have eaten the rest of it to keep predators away.
yet to find the 5th egg, I think its buried in her nest somewhere , will do some digging tomorrow. my kids need me, haha.
