Yester day i found a big egg in my nesting box. Yay! I currently only have 1 hen laying and they have been gradually getting bigger but this one was almost twice the size of the others. Today while working on their dust bath in the run I saw her go in the coop and she laid another egg. This one I know wAs from her but its the same size as the amaller ones from two days before. :( is it possible for their eggs to go big then small within a day or do i possibly have two hens laying? She is the smallest of my EE. I have a couple that are almost double her size. Idk if that makes a difference either. :/

Hens normally lay eggs about the same size every time, with pullet eggs gradually getting bigger. But normally doesn’t mean every time. It’s always possible another one is laying but with it being that big I really doubt it. I bet when you crack it you find two yolks in there.

Occasionally a hen has a glitch so she releases two yolks instead of one. If that is separated by a bit you might get two eggs in one day from the same hen, though often the second egg is soft shelled because the shell gland did not make enough material for two eggs. If those yolks are released at the same time, and they usually are, you get a huge egg with two yolks.

Ill have to check that out tomorrow at breakfast! She has only been laying for 2 weeks so her eggs are not full size yet. If its not a double yolk then could it be from one of my bigger hens?

Here are the 3 eggs the one on left is from today. The middle is three days ago and the right is yesterday.
