can a dove hatch a sparrow egg?

would a ringneck dove be able to hatch a house sparrow egg?
Yes. But then the sparrow chick would die.. because the way doves and pigeons feed their young is totally different to the way song birds do it. So the chick will starve to death.

I would not even attempt to hand rear a newly hatched sparrow chick.. that would be hugely time consuming and too many things to go wrong.. and in all probability the chick would die.

I have a small bird rescue.. and its hard enough to hand rear half grown chicks... a newly hatched one would need an incubator and be hand fed a specialised insect eating hand rearing formula many times each hour for many weeks...

Why do you want to do this thing?

I would think a society finch is going to be too small to incubate the egg. And if it could the sparrow chick is going to grow a lot bigger than the finch.. so the finch is not going to be able to keep up with the sparows feeding.

Also the diets of the 2 birds are different. Young sparrows feed on insects. The society finch eats seeds.

Have you found a sparrow egg or something. If so you are better to just throw it away.
