I ordered golden lakenvelders from my pet chicken, and (I ordered 6) there were 5 in the box but there was also a pure white one. Can they be white?

There are indeed Silver Lakenvelders, but they aren't solid white as chicks nor adults. I'd say you've got an extra rooster or something in there.

Defiantly an extra chick that was thrown in there. Places like that need some way of getting rid of extra roosters so they will add them for warmth.

Unfortunately, I do not know anything about lakenvelders, although from looking at the picture I would guess that they accidentally sent you one chick of a different breed. You could always email MPC and see what they have to say about it.

From my understanding, MPC does not usually send extra chicks and will not intentionally slip an extra cockerel in the box "for warmth" the way some hatcheries do.

Q: Do you send extra chicks with every order?
A: No, we do not normally add extra chicks, especially with small orders, although it may happen occasionally (usually only if someone miscounts). For larger orders or 25 or more, it is more common to receive an extra chick.

Understand that most My Pet Chicken customers are ordering very small quantities of birds, and may only be allowed to keep the number they have ordered. Since we ship with heat packs, we don't add "extra males for warmth" like other hatcheries do. If you do happen to receive an extra bird, it will be of the same sex and breed as one you have already ordered.

We ordered 8 chicks from MPC last summer (it was the minimum for our area) and they did send us an extra easter egger. But I'm not sure if it was intentional (our original hatch date was the weekend of the incubator failure when the EE's and orpingtons didn't hatch and since fully half our order was EE's they pushed our ship date back to the next date that all of the breeds we ordered were available...orders with only one or two chicks that failed to hatch were sent short the breed that failed) or if someone just grabbed 5 chicks instead of 4.
