Can a hen raising chicks cause the other hens to go broody?

You know how like when your friend has a baby all of the sudden 20 of your other friends start having babies. Does it work like that with chickens lol?

I've never really had it happen here either, but have read more than a few stories of it happening where folks have many birds of broodier breeds.

I have 28 hens. One went broody and the others are not. They care not! Maggie hatched her three eggs two days ago. They are all fine, and not a hint of another broody hen!

I have only had one hen go broody and raise chicks and she has done it twice. She goes broody when the rooster dies or is removed. Has happened twice and both times 5 weeks after the rooster was gone she proudly came home with 10 chicks each time. I think she is nesting in the wild rose bushes. We've never found the nest.

I'll be darned!
