lol.....just kidding with the title, but here is the real question. My wife is all for getting a few hens to have some nice fresh eggs. But years ago when we had bared rocks, she remembers the rooster waking her up on her days off, far earlier than she would have prefered. So.....this time she said, "NO ROOSTER"!

Well, I really enjoyed letting a hen set now and then and having a few chicks around. This isn't going to be an easy negotiation with her. Any thoughts or suggestions? Do any of you have the same issue and what do you do about it?

Thanks, Tim

oops....I just realized where I put this, and probably the wrong place, but I don't know how to move it, sorry.

You can buy fertile eggs and switch them out once you have a hen or hens go broody.Problem solved.No need for rooster and everyones happy! ( ;

yep, and then you're not even limited to the stock you have on hand... have a RIR hatch a batch of silkies if that's what you desire! ;)

Ummm.... Where do you get those 'females only' hatching eggs?

You can get them from any Hatchery or locals. Locals would probaly hatch better.Once they hatch raise them till you can tell the males from female.Sale the males or give away.OR you could sale them all as straight run chicks.
