I have a gosling that is about 3 months old (I think). It's right wing has angel wing very badly. Is there anyway to fix it? The wing tip is just about turned completely over.

It may be too late. Usually Angel Wing can be fixed if its attempted when the goose is very young. You can attempt to fix it, it can't hurt.

Increase the amount of greens that you're feeding the goose. Decrease the amount of feed. I wrapped my duck with an ace bandage, not too tightly, and it fixed itself within 3 or 4 days.

Good luck.

If you can manipulate it back into proper position without hurting the bird there may be a chance. If you can get it in the proper position you tape around the wing to hold it there..and I'd leave it for 2 weeks and then untape and see. If you can't manipulate it back into proper position without hurting the bird theres not a whole lot you can do. Angel wing really needs to be watched for from about 6-10 weeks...all the cases I dealt with showed themselves at about 6-8 weeks- I was watching for it and the second I noticed it starting to happen I jumped on it and taped before it got out of alignment too badly. One week and they're good as new.

I watch for the wing feathers to start poking out oddly even the slightest little bit- if there is anything sticking out oddly it is best to check as soon as you see it. Also as it just starts to happen I sometimes notice the flight feathers that are supposed to tuck under everything next to the body actually hitting the feathers above that face downward (and are supposed to cover the top of those flight feathers) when the wing is folded and breaking them off and when you feel the wing and pull it out and let it flex back you'll see that it doesn't flex back exactly into the proper position to fold those feathers neatly under everything but has rotated slightly outward causing it not to fold as neatly as before, possibly breaking off other feathers, and sometimes causing feathers to lay oddly or stick out.. it needs to be naled right then and there without delay.

I'm sorry your babies have it, I got goslings this year that got it too...it is a bummer and a pain in the fanny.

Thanks, I'll try that. I know this isn't feed-related, this gosling has been outside for over a month, and I really haven't fed it at all for quite sometime. It gets some of the chickens feed, but that is only 16%, other than that it is foraging all day.

After some searching, I figured out that my baby is about 7 weeks old, and the wing has been like this for a couple weeks already. It has gotten pretty bad the last few days, but when it stretches its wings out, the wing looks just fine.

Is it normal for it to be the right wing? I thought it usually happened to the left? This baby's left wing is just perfect, that was the one I was keeping a close eye on.

it is fixable if caught early enough I think-I have a 5 week od duck and I caght it right away-thanks to all the awesome people here teaching me with all their posts-As soon as I saw it starting I changed the feed to 15% from 20% and totaly increased greens -shredded broccoli-peas lots of grass/clovers/dandelions etc...its been 2 weeks and you'd never know it started-completly gone! good luck

That doesn't surprise me, the powers that be say it is food triggered but I know of scads of birds that are getting it who are pastured exclusively and don't have access to prepared food. I am of the opinion that it is genetic and borderline cases after careful studying of available information and can be contained sometimes with careful feeding but that's only a bandaid for the original problem. That is odd that it started so early and on the right side. It can start on the right side, it just doesn't usually. Keep it on the graze and if you can get it to manuever back into place tape it that's all you can do. This is the whole bottom section of the wing and not just the little tip on the end of the wing right????

You mean like the last joint? It is the end of the wing past the last joint. Everything is tipped outward, and it is almost going straight down, it's so bad. I guess it could be the tip, I'm not sure what you mean? The wing has 2 joints, right? One up near the shoulder and one before the tip? This is after that last joint before the tip.

I thought I had a pic, but it's a side shot of the left. I'll try to get a better pic tomorrow. I am pretty sure this is what it is.

So in order to tape it, will I have to pen the goose back up? It doesn't really have access to water too much, just the run-off from the A/C. What type of tape would work best? I have medical tape and packing tape, I might have electrical
