Check with someone at your local humane society! Granted if they get birds in there is a good chance they are fighting birds and you won't want them but they may have rescues ! They also probably have a good handle on who in your immediate area raises birds that might have some available!
Humane Societies try to keep informed of where all the local animals are whether they have to intervene or not. Worth a phone call at least. The worst they could tell you is what your already hearing, "sorry no info"

They will certainly calm down. We inherited a family passed down line of ameracauna and they have never been touched. The youngest of the flock are about a year old and the oldest I was told is well over that. They were flighty at first and now they will let me pet them. I have had them about a month.
