Hello, I bought some silkie eggs and had a broody hatch them. I know one of them is a splash, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the color is of the brownish one?? I bought them off of Eggbid from "TheBantamBarn". He has cuckoo, calico and some other colors that resemble it...but I am not sure. Also any guesses on the sexes of them would be great!
TIA...
Chrissie

Not sure - that one is a real puzzle! I'm not up on all of my colors yet though. Hopefully someone can answer your question. Good luck!

Partridge, that was the other color he has that resembles the brownish one. Silkies are so hard to tell, I can usually tell the day my other chicks pop out of the shell, but these lil ones....I have no guesses. The hubby thought he saw the brownish one crow. We can hear one of them but when I go to look he will not do it. LOL

Your hen looks ALMOST to have barring in the buff feathers - maybe she has the barring gene at work? That would be very cool to have the first buff barred silkie - a new variety!

I will try to get a better pic but there is some definite barring on her. But then her head is almost totally black. LOL Very unique!

I thought so as well, looks like a real find - congrats! You could always breed for this "new" color and start you own line of buff barred silkies - I think it would be very attractive once you bred the darker color out of her topknot area. Everyone would want your eggs, lol!
