I have eggs getting ready to hatch and would like to know if I can somehow sex my BCM chicks? I also have Blue Wheaten Ameracaunas set to hatch, can they be sexed? Thanks

The Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas can be sexed by about 3 weeks when their wing feathers come out enough.

Black Coppers are usually sexable by 3 weeks, sometimes more and sometimes less, depending on bloodlines. Some hens tend to have pretty big combs, and some cockerels have pretty small combs. BCMs are first sexed by comb size/color.

I had read the opposite: that the boys have BIG combs & the girls have small combs & much darker feet.

Don't the girls usually feather out faster as well?

I've got 5 BCMs & I've got a running bet with my son that the 3 that I pegged as roos when they were fluffing out will in fact be roos & the two left will be girls. The boys have very large combs, are much bigger in size, and aren't feathering out as fast. The girls have tiny black combs, black almost down to their toe nails, are smaller & are quite feathered out at 3 weeks old.

This is my first time hatching out BCM's, so any sexing facts would be helpful.
