Can chicken wire be used as a flower trellis?

i just finished building my coop and now I plan to do some landscaping around it. I've always wanted some climbing roses, and I think they'll really add that finishing touch to my coop and run! I'm just wondering if I can use the wire around the run as a trellis for the roses? Or would the wire be too small for them to climb on?

Roses can be pretty heavy, and the chicken wire will eventually rust out. My preference would be to put up a section of lattice for the roses to climb on.
