Can chickens have grass?

Hey there!

My flock gets to free range daily. Is it alright for them to be eating grass? I've heard that it can cause impaction in their crops? Adding to that is clover safe for chickens? I've read that it's more the longer strands that cause problems. I have provided a picture of how long the grass is rn is this too long?

Yeah they can eat grass just not grass only and clover is okay they can actually safely eat stinging nettles as well.

you can also always trim the grass but that looks fine to me maybe just a bit long. but not the end of the world my chickens free range all day throught a huge field with grass 3 times the size of that in summer and they are fine i just have to watch for snakes when the grass is really tall.

They love grass! And I’ve never had to mow the lawn since I’ve got chickens…I have to reseed it every year

If they have a big enough area they can go all over and you never have to reseed also my hens Susan ate a snake last summer she just jumped out the bushes with half the back end of a snake out her beak.

The issue with possible impaction comes from cut grass/weeds. Chickens will break off pieces from grass/weeds still attached to roots.
