just curious can chickens taste or when they don't like something do they just dislike the texture

Yes they have taste buds, but not as many as other animals.

By the time they can taste a food item, it's too late to spit it out, but they learn what they like and don't like.

Oh yes, we use strawberry jello in our water when we put meds in it because it ensures they will down a bunch of water because they run to it like a buffet.

Do you just mix in a dry packet of jello mix in the water?

Yes, we have a hatchery so if we are mixing anything its in a large bucket so I just put a whole packet/box of jello in a 5 gallon bucket of water with whatever meds. FAR from enough for it to turn to jello or harden at all but adds some flavor they seem to love and drink it like crazy. Im sure if you scaled it down to like a gallon of water just add a teaspoon or two, just enough for flavor basically.
