Can chickens that were born together become seperated ?

So I have a pair of Silkies that have been together for 2 years. And i want to get ride of the hen if it were seperated from the rooster for the rest of her life would it forget about him or become depressed or die ?

I think it would be very hard on them, but I don't think they would die. Do you have other chickens too? I am thinking one chicken alone would have a harder time than if there was a larger flock.
