I read someplace that your chickens can use ash from the fire pit to dust them selves.. is this true? My chicks are about 2 and a half weeks old and starting to dust them selves in their bedding. I have some ash in the houses from this winter and was going to put some in their coop if its true. I think I read it on here but now I cant seem to find where I read it. Its mostly my Gold Laced Wyandotte chicks and seem to be enjoying this right now, but i'm sure all the ladies would like it if it was available. Thanks for the help!!

Yes, you can use the ash from your fireplace, if you burn mostly wood in your fireplace and preferable no petroleum based products, fire lighters etc. The ash helps keep pests like mites under control.
