I have my baby chicks in the house and the smoke alarm went off today and 10 of them died? I am worried about the rest of them can they recover from stress? Some are not looking so good and don't know if there is anything I can do for them. I am so upsed and stressed myself over this?

I am so sorry this happened.

You must be so devastated. I wonder though if the sound of the smoke alarm caused the deaths or if it was the thing that caused the smoke alarm to go off. Chickens are very susceptible to toxic fumes of all sorts. For example, a teflon pan smoking on the stove is very deadly to birds. Certain heat lamp bulbs also have coatings that are also deadly. I'd want to rule things like that out as a cause so that it doesn't happen again to the survivors. I hope your remaining chicks make it!

Thank You! I am Very devestated especially since I tried so hard to do everything right! I am having no luck raising baby chicks this year, think I might just go out and buy adolesent ones so I don't have to deal with the fragilness of the babies. I don't think I ever want baby chicks again. This experience has really turned me off. I feel so guilty!
