Hey everyone, I was just wondering since the deep litter method holds compost (chicken poo and pee); can that be a food source and shelter for pests like cockroaches and even mice? I read somewhere some composts attract pests like those. So overall should I stick with the deep litter method or should I just clean the coop every week or so, thanks!

Do you mean DL (Deep Litter) method?
DE is Diatomaceous Earth.

DL is not likely to attract or support cockroaches or mice.

oh my I meant DL as in deep litter method, I will keep continuing this bedding method thanks!

We have deep litter in our run, never have had a cockroach or mice problem. I'm sure any cockroach that happened by would quickly be eaten by the hens! I wouldn't feel safe as a mouse either. Chickens are pretty brutal.
