Let's start out with the make up of my flock :) I have 4, 3y old hens. This year I added a 1y old silkie, and 10 chicks who are now various ages between 18-21 weeks old. For a total of 14 chickens. There are different "groups" in the flock, where (depending on when I added which group of chicks to the mix) they sort of hang out in their own groups and don't mix with the rest. We don't free range because they go to my neighbors house, which they don't like. They have a large open run and a covered run as well for when it is yucky outside.

I've been wanting some Mille Fleurs for some time now and my friend is getting some and wants to know if I'll take 2 :) So clearly I realllllllly want to say yes... But, I'm wondering if adding a group of 2 to the mix is going to cause death to them. Seems like it would.... unless there is a way to do it. I have some friends who do this all the time and never have problems. and I have some who they have nothing BUT problems.

Could I potentially free range them during the week that they get used to each other? or is there a better way to go about it.. OR, bust my bubble and say it won't work :)

thanks!

I wouldn't even entertain this at ALL if she was getting a totally different breed. I've been just wanting those! they are on my 'list to complete' in the chicken dept ROFL. it is just SOOO tempting!

If you try it, the more space, and the more hiding places and variety in their environment, the better it should go.

Introduce them through a dog kennel or a fence for a few weeks and the transition will be that much better.

I'm thinking that maybe I could take a section of my run and turn it into a new bird room? I need to build a bigger coop anyways, so in theory, I could make the bigger one now, and keep the smaller one for the new ones? only thing is, Id have less run room, hmmmm.
