Can I brake a broody?

It is possible, or so I gather.
Some people colour the eggs with sharpie markers and I suppose the smell deters the hen.
This breaks some hens but it often doesn't work
You could try giving the hen an ice bath, Fill a bucket with cold water and ice and put the hen in it. It sounds a bit cruel but apparently it works well.
As to how long it takes before the return to laying eggs. I don't know, Sorry

One effective and kinder way to break a broody hen is by putting her with only food and water (no nesting materials) in a wire cage for a few days. A broody hen's body temperature is slightly higher than normal and by placing her in the cage you make it difficult for her to maintain the elevated temperature. After an average of 3 days she should give up.
