I am using only organic feed for my flock, which has to be ordered and delivered only once a month. (I could order it from other places right now, but shipping makes it crazy expensive.) A bag of layer feed arrived Monday and was busted completely open on the delivery truck, all wasted! I also received a bag of starter feed (not medicated) in anticipation of getting chicks this spring. So.....
I have on hand a 40lb bag of starter feed and about 25lbs of layer feed. Can I mix the two together so I can have enough feed for the month? I have 11 chickens that are 23 weeks old. A couple of girls just started laying 3 days ago; the rest haven't started yet. I have been saving egg shells for a while, so I could provide that free-choice for calcium.
They also free-range on about 1 acre of pasture. If it weren't still winter, I wouldn't worry about them not having enough to eat
