We BOUGHT this house in July of 2007 -- almost three years ago. Previously it was rental, so obviously we got lots of mail for various people. For the first 6 months or so I would always return them to sender, but after a year had passed I figured if they hadn't changed their address by NOW then it wasn't any concern of mine so I started chunking the random mail (mostly junk anyway)

Today I got a bill from the local hospital, FOR SERVICES RENDERED LAST WEEK, billed to a guy who we did previously receive mail for, I think he has even gotten notices of warrants put out for him sent to this address. So I assume he DID live here at some point, but he's STILL using MY address. Apparently he got a CAT scan on March 15th

I assume that he is using my address because he has no intention of paying his bills. Right?

Should I do anything???

I can always just chunk it in the burn barrel. It's not MY problem if they can't collect from him

But do I need to worry about the cops showing up looking for him?? lol

I would be sure to send it back "Return to sender, not at this address."
Better to CYA than ignore it.

I think it's against the law to open someone elses mail so if I were you I would not mention that in the complaint. I would just write return to sender on all mail not yours and put right back in the box for the mailman to deal with.

Call the facility that performed the scan and explain that the individual doesnt live there, most places will appreciate the info.

I did take the notice of warrent down to the police station and tell them he didn't live there anymore. That was over a year ago though.

We recently changed telephone providers and got a new number. And we inherited the previous owners' collection agency calls.

I'd start putting every single piece of mail addressed to him back in the box with RETURN TO SENDER written in bold across the envelope.

I did that at first, when I figured everyone's mail was in limbo due to the moving around.

But it's been 3 years, so now I think he's doing it intentionally. I do NOT get "normal" mail for him, only medical bills, so I think he is intentionally giving a false address for these costly bills...That is why it bothers me.

Our landline only gets "junkmail" phone calls. I put the ringer on silent and just check the messages after work. If it's important, they'll leave a message. If they really KNOW me, they'll call my cell.

Keep a black magic marker in the back of your mailbox. As soon as you see a bill for him, mark it and leave stick it back in the box. That way there is no need to have to make trips back and forth.
