My duck is in with my chickens ( she is our only duck )

We have 5 new baby chicks that are dying from Cocci ( pretty sure at least, bloody stools lack of movement )

The duck with the older chicks is in a completely seperate and away from brooder pen, the little ones are in the brooder on the porch. I'd say they are roughly 40 ft from each other.

Anyways, since I am treating the little ones with Wazine/Sulmet and want to treat the older chicks to be on the sfe side since I don't want to carry anything from one flock to the other, can Poof the ducky drink water that has Wazine/Sulmet in it????

In short, yes.

Wazine is safe to use in ducks just as you would in chickens, it won't hurt them. Plenty of people (including myself) have used Wazine on ducks with no ill effects.

However, because ducks drink so much water, you may want to take Poof aside for about half of every day (or, maybe during the night - keep her confined in a dog-crate next to her chickie-buddies or something) and provide her with some un-medicated water - if the only water she has access to is the medicated water, she could end up getting a pretty high dose, just based on how much water she drinks in comparison to the chickens. Generally, with ducks, you want to treat them with a measured amount of medicine in an eyedropper (given orally), or by using a powdered medication designed to be mixed into the feed - just because the dosage is so hard to get correct with ducks when you're mixing the treatment into the water.

It's also probably worth mentioning that, while it's not common, coccidiosis CAN affect ducks.

Thank you!! I did give them the medicated water yesterday but I also put Poof in her kiddie pool and let her paddle around and drink as much water as she wanted. I will take her out again today and let her run around the yard with clean water while the chickens stay in the coop.

I was concerned that Poof might get it as well because she is in with the chickens but again, I medicated the older chickens BECAUSE we had a chick die just 2 days ago and feared that we were losing even more and even though they NEVER interact with each other I wanted to give them just a few doses to be safe.
