can I give them grass hay as bedding?

I have 4 fuzzy chicks who hatched over the weekend, would it be ok to put orchard grass hay where they like to sleep under the warming light to make it softer?

It would be ok i think never seen orchard grass. The only thing is be careful that it doesnt' get to hot if its really loose and fine hay it can catch on fire easily.

Thanks, I think its far enough away it wont be able to ignite (the lamp is screwed into the welded mesh lid of the aquarium so it has a bit of a barrier too)

I think it's better to stay simple, with paper towels etc. The grass hay probably won't hurt them, though.

I ended up trying it, didn't give them a whole lot just a handfull. They are scratching at it, dragging pieces around and playing keep away with a seed head. Its now spead (by them) from one end of the brooder to the other (but they seem to be having a lot of fun)
