By the way, I think the tom/hen ratio will be poor if you have only 3 hens and seven toms. I'm not totally sure about this-- does anyone else know -- the hens may get beaten up by overbreeding.

For sure with that many hens you will only need one tom your best to service the hens anymore with that little hens will have bad results maybe even death.​

if that is the case then what say come mating time i move all the hen to another coop with one tom and then change them alternately after a couple of days or will that lead to infighting. real worried now

One thing to remember about turkey mating is it's hens choice. They don't do it like chickens where the roo just grabs a hen. The hen will lay down for the tom of her choice, more than likely the dominate tom.

If you start moving the toms around you will upset the pecking order and they will fight with the one you put back in. I would take the best 2 or 3 toms and seperate them and the hens about a month before breeding season. Put the other toms in a bachelor pen until you can check egg fertility.

I am bumping in on this post...I have a question on my tom.
He is kind of a woosy. He is a Slate, 1 yr old this coming Sept. He has shown numerous signs of the mating dance, fluffing up, stomping the foot, etc. His mate, same age, has been laying eggs for about 4 months now and chasing the tom all over. It was just the two of them in the "love nest" until we put in our "not ready for the freezer yet" BBB & BB white. We also put in the pouts, 2 heritage bourbons and 2 royal palm pouts in there...
The tom has taken a fancy to the BBB and the BB white. The slate still chased him and he will have nothing to do with her. The other 2 girls are not laying yet but the BB white "squats" for me. I do not pet her down in the hopes the tom will do his job.

??can, should I let, the tom breed with the broad breasted bourbon & white?? we are looking for some more meat birds if that happens.
??how can I get him to breed with the slate?

I am actually wanting the turkeys to lay for just the eggs, but we would also like to have some babies...

UUGGG...what to do? Any help - advice - ideas??
