Can I move a broody and her eggs from dangerous to safe place?

My dad calls and tells me about a hen that's been sitting on eggs for at least a week. It's behind the garage, uncovered, unprotected. He said today the poor thing got soaked and there's more rain to come. I can't believe nothing has gotten her yet.

He needs to move her ASAP. If he takes her and the eggs and puts in a dog crate, will she finish the incubation or abandon the eggs? Anyone had this experience?

p.s these are my uncle's chickens. He can't get around well, that's why he probably never noticed her back there.

Yes, you can move broodies. Move her when it's dark outside. Take her and her eggs and put them in a dark box, leave them in darkness for a couple of days, she should stay broody.

I would move her into a large dog crate/box, and make a pre - nest in there, put the broody hen in there, with the eggs, and hope for the best!

P.S. They don't normally abandon, sounds like she will stick to staying broody if she stayed out in the rain!

I had to move one for the same reason .. to get her out of the rain ... so far so good

should start hatching this weekend
