first let me say that all my chickens are free range but i put them up in the coop every night and my coop has all my nest boxes in it and my hens go and lay in them throughout the day but recently my little splash americana decided that she would make a nest under our rock wall in a plywood box . i guess i was asking for it cause the box just has five sides and the opening in the box is facing up so she and another hen layed a total of 18 eggs and she has now been setting for about two weeks so i thought that at some time during the night here soon i would put her in a large cage where she can raise them and i won't have to worry about them being caught but i don't want to make her stop setting on them so should i leave her alone or will it be ok for me to move her and the nest to a large confined area

Moving a sitting hen can be tricky. Sometimes they will accept the new place without hassles and sometimes they will flat out refuse to settle and return to theri original nest site. Is there a way you can protect her where she is sitting at the moment? At night at least? Then move her when the chicks have hatched. Just had a funny thought... if all 18 eggs hatch she's going to be too busy to care about being moved. LOL It's unlikely though.

she is safe at night baecause it is a heavy box and i put something over the open side so nothing can get her
