Can I out my Isa Brown chickens in my county fair?

The answer is look up tour county fairs rules and classes for chickens. There should be a contact for the show. Ask them about hybrids. If they are allowed knock yourself out. If not, then the answer is no. Since we dint know the county rules we can not say if she can be shown or not.

I would enter her, or at least try to. Your 4H fair SHOULD have a backyard class for mix birds. Ours does, and every single other county I have visited has one too.

Why would you want to show them in the first place? You're not going to win a title that would carry any meaning. And you would be exposing your birds to any number of potential illnesses.

I take it you dont show. County fairs require a pullorum cert. and a visual check of the bird in order to get into the show. Also, showing isn't all about winning. It is about the learning experiences and the fun.

I can understand wanting to get some experience exhibiting poultry, but if you wanted to get into showing chickens, why pick Isa Browns? Makes no sense. And regardless of certifications required, it's still a biosecurity risk every time you take your birds to a show.

I'm guessing that the original poster does not have anything other than isa browns, with no ability to get another breed. That is the only situation I can think of where someone would want to show isa browns, if they have no other options.

Thank you for all of your help!! On Friday I was going to go to my local feed store and pick up some around 6 chicks ( they carry chicks really late in the year ) and maybe pick up some Wyandottes or Barred Rocks. I am going to start a thread on what chicken breeds i should bring to the fair. Thanks. The reason I was going to put some of my Isa's in the fair was because they were already raised and I wasn't sure if i wanted to start over this late in the year with chicks (I'll keep them inside for awhile before i let them outside).

Why would you buy chicks at a feed store? Thats like buying sushi at a gas station.
