I just got 5 one week old chicks today, they are 2 black australorps and 3 barred rocks, we will be picking up 6 rhode island reds tomorrow. can I put them in the same brooder?

our older girls are in their coop now ( they are 8 weeks old )
We plan on putting in a divider wall when introduceing the younger ones into the coop, so Im not worried about that,
but Im worried about mixing the 2 ages, will they be ok in the same brooder

, our brooder is a huge tote bin apx 24" x 40 " we had the other 9 in there untill last week , so I know the size is ok .

Yes you can put them together, just watch that they all get to eat/drink, sometimes older ones will try to keep the younger ones away.

Shouldn't be a problem at this age. Our chicks arrived at different times too this past spring. They were all within a week or so of each other and I just popped them right in with the others. Kept an eye on them but no problems at all.

ohh good , I was hoping we could make them bunk mates

I had visions of my entire living room being taken over by chick brooders and our 2 dogs

Wait - what about - quarantine suggested rules. What if new chix are ill and you don't know it and get the ones you had already sick. _ I would seriously rethink it - Maybe I am overly cautious but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I figured with just getting the younger ones today and getting the older ones tomorrow it wouldn't make much difference about quarantine , but in case it does , how long should I keep the younger ones seperated?

these chick have all been incubater hatched , doesn't that make a difference?

If it were me I would quarantine them together in the same brooder. If i get different birds from different people on the same day or with in a few days I stick them all together To watch them and make sure they are healthy. Otherwise I'd have to have a bunch of brooders when I come home from the chicken swaps. Your supposed to quarantine them for a month. Hope this helps.
