I can't even begin to tell you how bad this is ... We had approximately 70 chickens, mostly this year's hatchings ... 3 new built coops, all new equipment, just ran electric and water to the coops...and poof! Marek's! I took some dead ones to get necropsy and had it confirmed.
To start with I was just going to see who made it but we were loosing between 3-5 a day and some were SOOO skinny so we finally culled them all.
It's been a very sad time.
I don't know if I'm ready to give up since we've just put all the work into building our little chicken farm. Now I'm wondering if we pressure wash our coops and wait until spring are we safe to try again? I know what people say about it staying in the soil...but is that true for Iowa where the ground freezes to 4' down?
If anyone has had Marek's and started over with a clean flock with no reinfection please let me know and let me know how you did it.
I'd appreciate any information or suggestions. I do have Google and I've read up everything online so I'm really just asking for first hand experience.
