The annoying thing about coturnix I am coming to find is the rust chest means nothing at times.... I have hens with NO speckles on their chest (in golden) but the reason I can tell them apart from the males is 1. no blush colored chin and 2. theres areas where theres no rust on the chest it's spotted cream instead of black.
Then I have brown hens that have rust colored chests with spots....however the two first ones are really rusty for their age so Im betting roos though i've been fooled before those spots are throwing me for a loop. Roos should have NO spots. So to me that rust WITH spots has me not even wanting to say roo OR hen....like i was telling citalk2much the other day... some people cull these questionables before they have a chance to know for sure. I have learned to wait until they crow and for the swollen vent area before I cull or sell.
