Can I take away the bulb now?

It’s 72 degrees in here. The bulb makes the place too hot for myself and the chicks. I put a 60 watt normal bulb in for now to give a little comfort. Here they are.

They don’t seem cold at all, splaying our their feathers sometimes. Just curious if o can pull the red bulb now and have no heated anymore or if they might need it overnight. They’re pretty feathery... 3 week, 6 days old. So almost 4 weeks... are we good to go??? Please tell me I can ditch the lamp. :th

During the next week, you can increase their outdoor time. By the time they are 4 - 5 weeks old, they should be good to live in their permanent coop/run without heat with outdoor temps between 30 and 70*. If you are concerned about them moving outside, you can build them a huddle box.

Temps are low, early spring, highs around 54F, lows around 35F. I use Celsius but those are the conversions I got. Sounds like they would be good to start outdoor time and be out in the coop day by the end of the week? :)

A red bulb or light is intended to allow your chickens to get some shuteye as opposed to a bright white light that plays heck with a chicken's normal circadian rhythms. Constant bright or white light will bring on cannibalism in young chicks as sure as God makes little green apples.
Yes I’m well aware, thanks ;) but I have to ask... where do the little green apples fit in?? :lau Is that an expression? I’ve never heard it, got a good laugh :p

Yes, they are 4 weeks now. So one more week of hardening off, out during the day, back in the house for nights, then out for good next weekend.

And this is for Chicken George and you. Enjoy!

This is their second night outside, ever. It's going down to 3*C tonight and 0*C tomorrow night. :( I'm worried about them. I worry that's just too cold too soon. But to check on them, I'd be opening the door and losing heat.
