Can I take some chicks from my broody hen?

Hi everyone! My silkie just hatched 5 adorable babies. Unfortunately I don't have enough space to keep them all (I plan on keeping 1) and thought it would be easier to find the other 4 homes when they are younger. My question is will my silkie be upset if I take 4 of them to give away if she gets to keep one? The chicks are about two weeks old.

Thank you!

Just do it, and make some people happy with beautiful Silkie pets. :love:hugs

Don't think of chickens in same terms as people, That being said, does not mean you should not LUV:love them.

I do suggest you keep 2 of the littles,,,,,,,,, for yourself. Just a personal preference opinion.

Thank you so much!! 😊 Also, I do loooove my chickens, frankly I'm obsessed and they are very spoiled and happy 💖🐔🤓

The Silkie may grieve a bit for a day or two (she will just be a bit sad), she also might not since she does have another chick to take care of, it varies from chicken to chicken. I do agree that I would keep 2-3 for myself just in case. Just make sure you give them away in pairs, don’t give them away by themselves, it would make them lonely.

Don't put human emotions on animals. They do have feelings but not like we do.

Right now my broody/hatching cage is being used for something else so I have to take the chicks from the sitting hen. Took her first hatched today and will have to keep an eye out for the rest. If I leave them in there they will jump down from the nest, not be able to return, and the rest of the flock will eat them.
The hen never misses them and I end up being momma. Not the way I like doing it but an emergency popped up and I had to use my hatching cage I planned on putting them in so momma could safely raise them from harms way in the covered run.
