Can I train my chickens to stay in my yard?

Last year they pretty much stayed in our yard, which is pretty massive. But I have a few new birds this year and they keep running across the street into the neighbor's yard. I don't want to have to keep them inside a run, but it will be necessary if I can't get them to stay on my side. There is a ton of space behind the pond for them to run around, but they never go there, and always head for the road.

For now I keep throwing treats to lure them back, or take my little herding dog out there on a leash to chase them back, but they show no signs of learning.

I wonder if putting an owl decoy at the end of my driveway would keep them away from the street?

No it won't
What works: gates, fence, I read somewhere they use automatic water sprinklers, or have a dog that will herd them "or eat them"
