The sand doesn't seem to keep for longer than one day if left unattended. It soaks up all the liquid poop and then stays wet and defeats the purpose of scooping. Will natural cat litter hurt the chickens if they eat it????

I would not put kitty litter on poop boards, almost all of it contains some kind of chemicals.
Nope juicy poops can be 'scooped'.

I use PDZ and a fine sifter, the wet PDZ dries back out again.
Here's some posts about it, they're kind of old, but changes are noted.
...and the threads these posts are in has a ton of examples of poop boards.

I don't think clumping litter would be good, if they ate too much of it, and they will eat some of it, I don't see that ending well... You didn't describe your setup, but you could just scrape the area clean. In my coop, I have poop boards under the roosts, and I just scrape them off into a bucket, using a plastic taping knife and a kid-sized hoe. Quick & easy, no consumable supplies.
