Can I use ramshorn snails as grit?

I have several aquariums with way too many RamHorn snails in them, I have a lot of die off when there's any sort of water fluctuations so I have a surplus of shells from them. If I boil the shells to hopefully remove anything that might harm the chickens, could I grind them up and use these shells as a homemade grit?

It wouldn't be grit, it would be a calcium supplement.
Grit is stones.
